nikosNikos Syropoulos is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, arranger, and educator based in Los Angeles, CA. A two-time recipient of the ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award, he started playing piano at the age of four and began composing music by the age of 14. Now at 23 years old he is highly sought after as an artist for his beautiful touch at the piano, his musical creativity and sensitivity, and his versatility. He is fluent in many different genres, both as a performer and composer, including jazz, classical, R&B, funk, pop, and folk music.

Playing a unique blend of jazz improvisation and classical chamber music, pianist and composer Nikos Syropoulos and his ensemble, Rozalia, are surprising audiences in Los Angeles. Dedicated to and named after his late ‘yiayia’ (Greek grandmother), Rozalia is a new ensemble of piano, string quartet, and vocalist that showcases Nikos’ original compositions and arrangements. His debut album was released in January of 2012.

Nikos has performed in venues across the country, and has been featured with artists such as Bob Mintzer, Grammy award-winning songwriter, Josh Kear, jazz singer James Torme (son of legendary singer, Mel Torme), has opened for The Doobie Brothers, and performed with the LA soul-jazz collective, Build an Ark. Additionally, he has arranged music for Crystal Cruise Lines, the USC Alumni Awards, and performed for the 2nd annual Governor’s Award.

Nikos attended college at USC’s Thornton School of Music on a full-tuition scholarship. His accomplishments include having received the jazz department’s Outstanding Undergraduate Award and graduated magna cum laude. Currently he studies the Taubman Approach to piano technique under Master Teacher Robert Durso. As a private teacher he teaches piano, improvisation, and composition.
