Cellist Joo H. Lee, the artist director of Symbiosis Ensemble, is an active freelancer both in the Greater Los Angeles area and Las Vegas. Ms. Lee has performed as a chamber and orchestral musician in renowned concert halls such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Jordan Hall, Boston, Alice Tully Hall, Julliard Theatre, and Carnegie Hall. Ms. Lee has served as the principal cellists in many orchestras and as one, she has had the honor of playing in Carnegie Hall. During the ISO tour in 2001, she was featured as a soloist to play Haydn Cello Concerto in D Major at Yale University, Connecticut.
Performing contemporary music is one of Ms. Lee’s interests and she has collaborated with Wild Up and LA Composer’s Project. During the first season of Symbiosis Ensemble in 2010-2011, Ms. Lee collaborated with contemporary composers to world premier over 10 musical works. Additionally, Symbiosis Ensemble collaborated with Synchromy and produced 2 performances of works by Synchromy composers early this year. Ms. Lee has been invited to attend in summer festivals such as Aspen Music Festival and School as a New Horizon Fellow, Orford Music Festival, Killington Music Festival, Idyllwild Summer Festival, Interlochen Summer Festival, Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory, and Eastern Music Festival as one of the three Fellows. As an educator, she has been coaching and teaching for many years. As a result, since 2011, she has beening serve as a judge for the LA Cello Society Scholarship auditions, as well as for Southwestern Youth Music Festival in Long Beach. Currently, Ms. Lee is a board member of Los Angeles Violoncello Society.
After graduating with honors from the Pre-College of the Julliard School proceeding, she continued her education at New England Conservatory, BM, and University of Southern California, MM, with Mr. Leonard. Ms. Lee currently lives in Torrance with her family and 2 dogs, Jubey and Nilla.
