The City of Angeles Saxophone Quartet was founded in 1990 at Cal State Northridge University. They are the past recipients of the Coleman Chamber Music Award and the Monterey Bay Chamber Music Award. They have performed extensively in the US and toured Russia.
Their music is a combination of jazz and classical works, some of which are the groups own arrangements and some original works for saxophone quartet. Their impressive display of technique, versatility and style is a veritable delight.
Bill Wilson received his undergraduate degree from Cal State Northridge and his masters in music from USC and his MBA at Pepperdine University. Bill lived and performed in Japan for 3 years where he mastered both the language and the shakuhachi. Bill is a regular performer with the Dean Mora Orchestras.
Sean Stackpoole received his undergraduate degree from Cal State Northridge. He has performed in the Monterey Jazz festival and toured Japan. He released his own solo CD of traditional jazz entitled "What's New" and has also authored the saxophone method book "Saxophone Basix". Sean is also an accomplished flutist and is a member of the Avenel Chamber Players and the Santa Monica Symphony.
Cindy Swanson's wonderful playing brings a touch of class to group. She received her undergraduate degree from Cal State Long Beach and has studied with Paul Sundfor, Leo Potts, Jeff Clayton and Bob Sheppard. She is a frequent performer in pit orchestras around town and a regular sub in a variety of bands at Disneyland.
Matt Germaine is the anchor of the group at the bari chair. He received his undergraduate degree from Cal State Northridge and possesses a truly outstanding musical presence. Matt is a regular performer with the Dean Mora Orchestras and can frequently be found in the orchestra pit of various shows around Southern California.
