FIRST SUNDAYS, May 1st, 2011: an afternoon of chamber music and art at the Laguna College of Art & Design. The concert is 3:00 to 4:30 pm and the Art Gallery opens at 2:00 pm.

Auria, “gentle music,” brings together the talents and experiences of artists who’ve performed all over the globe. Now all residing in Los Angeles, they discovered a collaboration that’s just beginning to catch the ear of music lovers across the city. Auria, “gentle music,” made its debut as an ensemble with the Southeast Symphony. Soon afterward, Auria was presented in concert by the Mid-City Music Center at the Lucy Florence Cultural Center in the heart of historic Leimert Park Village in Los Angeles. Appearances on the Laguna Beach Live! and L.A. Musical Salon Dinner/Concert Series in Westwood followed.

Funding is provided by the lodging establishments and City of Laguna Beach and donations from the audience.

AlmaNova is a talented, classically trained flute and guitar duo presenting an eclectic program of music from all over the world. This innovative duo has been trained in the classical tradition while exploring other types of music. AlmaNova’s great love of all musical genres shines through to their audience by way of dynamic performances and mesmerizing stage presence.

Alexander Sack is a fine arts guitarist whose awards include, two time winner of the Randy Rhoads Memorial Award, and twice recipient of the Andres Segovia Award for classical guitar
performance. He has utilized the electric guitar as a solo instrument, and refined it for music from classical to blues,and contemporary compositions.

CEORA WINDS: is composed of Michelle Matsumune, flute, Heather Millette, clarinet and Christin Webb, bassoon. They have played chamber music together for 10 years, performing throughout Southern California and across the country in concert halls, churches, cocktail parties and coffee shops. Equally adept at classical standards, jazz arrangements and everything in between, Ceora Winds brings the joy of true chamber music to the community.

CUERDAS DEL MAR: This versatile duo, including Bill Jones on classical guitar and Diana Turner on violin, performs at many important functions throughout San Diego. Both having received master degrees in music performance from San Diego State University, they continue to build on their 15 year foundation of musical training and performance experience.

Cuerdos del Mar performs a wide variety of music genres including: classical, Irish, folk, gypsy, Jazz and are always expanding their repertoire as well as including requests.

Triada Guitar Trio

Established in 2001 (and known first as the BG Brothers), Triada consists of the brothers Chekardzhikovi: Nikola, Vasil and Petar from Bulgaria. The three are former members of the guitar quartet Four of a Kind, an ensemble which included their sister Petya Chekardzhikova. A heavy schedule of concerts, TV and Radio appearances in Bulgaria led to appearances in Europe from 1994 to 1996 when Four of a Kind twice toured Belgium and Holland under professional management, presenting concerts in Brussels (Palais de Beaux-Arts), Antwerp, Liege and Leuven, among others. Since coming to the United States, the brothers have performed in California, Wisconsin, Indiana, Colorado, Texas and Hawaii. In March 2004, Triada won first prize in the Third Annual Guitar Ensemble Competition in Brownsville, Texas.

The three brothers studied guitar since early childhood with professor Ljuben Haralambiev in Varna, Bulgaria. In America, they have studied as Graduate students at California State University, Fullerton with professor David Grimes. The brothers have also participated in master classes with internationally-known guitarists, such as Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (USA), Pavel Steidl (Czech Republic), Ana Maria Rosado (USA), Joaquin Clerch (Cuba), Eric Franceries (France), Aldo Lagrutta (Venezuela), George Vassilev (Bulgaria) and Costas Cotsiolis (Greece).

Laguna Beach Live! is pleased to present Alexander Sack. Alex is a fine arts guitarist whose awards include, two time winner of the Randy Rhoads Memorial Award, and twice recipient of the Andres Segovia Award for classical guitar performance. He has utilized the electric guitar as a solo instrument, and refined it for music from classical to blues, and contemporary compositions. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from California Institute of the Arts, where he pursued composing for the solo guitar.

The theme of the afternoon’s program is Music of the Americas, from Louise Milan composing in Spain during the discovery and exploration of the New World, to music of, or inspired by, South America and North America.

The concert is 3:00 to 4:30 pm in Studio 6 of the Laguna College of Art & Design, 2222 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. Just a few miles from downtown Laguna, the lovely campus offers ample and complimentary parking. The College Art Gallery opens at 2:00 pm to view the current exhibition and is open during intermission.

Laguna Beach Live! is pleased to present this very talented trio. Brought together by the desire to perform unconventional music, Third Wheel is a woodwind trio unlike any other. With a repertoire spanning more than four centuries of music, Third Wheel expands the definition of chamber music with an unusual instrumentation and fresh, youthful perspective.

Triada Guitar Trio

Laguna Beach Live! is pleased to present Bulgarian brothers Nikola, Vasil and Petar Chekardzhikovi who have studied guitar since early childhood and have toured extensively in Europe and the United States. In 2004, they won first prize in the Third Annual Guitar Ensemble Competition in Brownsville, Texas. They will perform spirited classical and contemporary guitar works.

Their intriguing mix of music depicts the impressions and experiences of modern-day classical composers, capturing an array of style and emotion, ranging from Classical to Flamenco, Gypsy to Turkish, Jazz to Rock, Folk to Bartok, and New Age to the most Avante-Garde.
