Rivian Theater

162 S. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach

Music in Motion is a unique evening of live music, film, and conversation at the Rivian Theater on Thursday, September 24. Musician and composer Steve Wood will curate the evening's live performances, working with the award winning Zelter String Quartet to perform alongside specially selected film sequences from the archive of acclaimed filmmaker Greg MacGillivray, creating a live dialogue between image and sound. Throughout the evening, Greg and Steve will explore the creative relationship between image and sound, sharing stories from their careers and insights into how a musical score shapes emotion, storytelling, and our experience of the screen. As part of Laguna Beach Live!’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, tickets are just $25.

Praised by LA Opus for their “seemingly effortless precision and blend,” the Zelter String Quartet has quickly established itself as one of Southern California's leading young chamber ensembles. Formed in Los Angeles in 2018, the quartet won First Prize at the 2023 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the Gold Prize at the 2021 Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competition. Its members—violinists Kyle Gilner and Gallia Kastner, violist Carson Rick, and cellist Allan Hon—have trained with many of the world's foremost quartets through prestigious programs including Aspen Music Festival, Juilliard, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet Seminar.
